‘Movement is the figure of love, incapable of stopping at a particular being, and rapidly passing from one to another.’
Bataille, G, ‘Visions of Excess Selected Writings, 1927-1939’
My practice encompasses painting, sculpture and assemblage, using recurrent materials and motifs such as fur, mushrooms, circles, locks of hair and pearls. Initially these objects appear to be drawn from the rich tapestry of images presented to us in fairy tales and myths. However on closer inspection, these isolated signifiers, divorced from their original context, often reveal darker, more disturbing undertones, through their suggestive juxtapositions; confusing the erotic and the abject, the sacred and the profane. It is this productive instability, which I seek to activate within my wider practice.
